Calais - Hypermarkets and Calais Market
Place Crèvecoeur (Open Thu/Sat) & Place d'Armes (Wed/Sat)
Away from the main Supermarkets and Hypermarkets, a little piece of traditional French shopping remains in the two Calais Markets. Wednesdays and Saturdays see the Place
d'Armes given over to local produce, while on Thursdays and Saturdays it is the Place Crèvecoeur's turn. Both these atmospheric markets offer a chance to purchase fresh
farm produce, including homemade cheese, jam and cakes. It's an ideal opportunity to rub shoulders with the locals and pick up some really fresh food. Look out for
seasonal fruits and vegetables, and stalls selling delicious sausage and smoked garlic. Both markets are best visited early as they finish around noon.
The Place d'Armes is in the centre of the Old Town area, minutes from the port, and Place Crèvecoeur is about 20 minutes' walk away to the South.
